Welcome to my website.

I am a criminal defence solicitor based in London but I deal with serious criminal cases throughout the UK. Unlike some solicitors who offer a wide range of services to their clients I specialise in the defence of serious crime. Also unlike a lot of other solicitors I personally attend police stations in the vast majority of cases.

I have over twenty-four years of experience in advising and assisting clients at police stations and preparing defence cases for crown court trial with a particular emphasis on:

Murder/Manslaughter

Serious Fraud

Sexual Offences

Other Serious Offences

I am a consultant with McCormacks one of London's leading criminal law defence firms with offices in the Barbican, Mile End, Basildon, London Bridge, South London, Stepney Green and Stratford.

If you or someone you know is being investigated by the police, Serious Fraud Office or HM Revenue and Customs, then I can help. It is important to contact a solicitor early if you are under investigation. You can contact me 24/7 every day of the year for free legal advice at any police station in London, Kent or Essex. I will, in the majority of cases, personally attend the police station and advice you of your rights and help you prepare for the interview and support you whilst you are at the police station. I will advise you whether it is in your interests to answer questions in the interview or whether you should exercise your right to remain silent. What you do or say in a police station when under investigation will have a major impact on your eventual acquittal or conviction. It is vitally important therefore to contact a solicitor as soon as possible. Do not be put off by the police suggesting that if you ask for a solicitor there will be long delays. In most cases solicitors will be able to get to the police station within 45 minutes once the police have confirmed that they are ready to interview you. The police are not paid to prove your innocence. Their job is to investigate, arrest and charge. The job of a defence lawyer is to protect and advance a client’s legal rights.

You will be given certain rights/information on being taken to a police station. One of these ‘rights’ is the right to have free independent legal advice. Ask for a solicitor as soon as you are ‘booked in’ by the custody officer. The police will then contact either the firm or the solicitor you have nominated. If you have not nominated a particular solicitor or firm then the duty solicitor will be contacted on your behalf. The duty solicitor is completely independent of the police and will advise you free of charge.

If you are currently on police bail pending further enquiries by the police than please contact me for an appointment and I can attend the police station when you return to the police station at a future date.

Although I practice predominantly in the London / Essex / Kent areas I have dealt with cases in Birmingham, Brighton, Canterbury, Dover, Gloucester, Guildford, High Wycombe, Leicester, Luton, Maidstone, Manchester, Margate, Milton Keynes, Newport etc.

If you are unfortunate enough to be charged I will personally deal with your case throughout.

Legal aid for advice at police stations

Anyone under arrest at a police station is entitled to free legal advice 24/7. The same applies for anyone who attends a police station as a volunteer but who is being interviewed by the police under caution. This advice is completely free irrespective of whether you are in receipt of benefits or in full time employment and irrespective of what your earnings or savings are. There are no forms to fill or sign.

If a young person is under arrest you, as their parent/guardian, are entitled to ask for a solicitor on their behalf. Equally you can also instruct a solicitor on behalf of a friend or a relative who is an adult. Again this service is completely free and available 24/7.

Changing solicitors before charge

If you have been released on police bail pending further enquiries by the police, and you have already been advised by a solicitor, but you want to change solicitors then you do not need the permission of the original solicitor to instruct another solicitor. However in this situation you are not entitled to free legal advice from the new solicitor for the same offence unless certain limited exceptions apply. Therefore you may have to pay the new solicitor unless he/she agrees to act for you free of charge. If you are not happy with the advice/service you have received from your current solicitor and want to change then please contact me on 07770 267894 for a free 30 minute consultation.

Changing solicitors after charge

Anyone appearing in the youth court will almost certainly be eligible for legal aid. In the magistrates court legal aid will be granted if it is in the interests of justice e.g. there is a real risk of someone being sent to prison if convicted and they are financially eligible. In the crown court where the more serious cases are heard you will be entitled to legal aid but may have to pay a contribution depending on your financial circumstances..

If you are not happy with the legal advice/service you are getting from your solicitor then you may in some circumstances be entitled to change solicitors but will need the permission of the court to do so. Therefore if you are not happy with your current solicitor then please contact me on 07770 267894 for a free 30 minute consultation.
